Growing up I would get lost in my National Geographic magazines. The beautiful imagery and exotic locations can bring out anyone’s inner Indiana Jones. One thing that stood out in the pages of National Geographic was the almost three-dimensional imagery. I was a little obsessed with how these images were captured. What camera did they use? What were the camera settings? What type of film were these works of art shot on? One of the big revelations for me growing up was learning about the holy grail of film, Kodachrome! It was used in some of the most stunning images. Unfortunately, I never was able to shoot with Kodachrome film as it was no longer manufactured as we moved into the digital age. The one thing that I will always remember is the story and adventure that those images told and the feelings that they invoked in me. It’s always important to remind yourself to capture and process images for yourself and not for others. Look for scenes that speak to you and process your images in a way that feels authentic and satisfying. To capture these images I used my Sony a7r2 and processed them with the Film Emulation Collection Lightroom presets and profiles.
