Blending Light HDR Photography – The Black Sands of Stokksnes: Here’s a photo I took in Stokksnes, Iceland. Like I said in an earlier post, I have a ton of images from this location! You can literally spend days photographing the Vestrahorn Mountain because it’s not only the mountain that’s interesting… it’s all the details of the foreground! The rippling sand, grassy dunes, reflective pools and the rolling waves of the North Atlantic! The biggest factor that day was the weather and the light. You can plan the sunset and composition but you can’t plan what the weather will do! In one afternoon, it went from completely overcast to the point where you couldn’t see the mountain at all to a harsh stark blue sky. As the sun set and the temperature dropped, the clouds came back to add some interest to the sky. I found a small patch of grass that was situated beside some rippling sand and started snapping. The end result was this cool looking shot. Check out the high-quality version here!

Post Processing & Camera Settings.

To capture this image, I used my FE 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS. I took three bracketed shots EV (-2, 0, +2) and combined them in Photoshop/Luminosity Masks. Next, I used the Creative Flow Lightroom Presets and Brushes to process my middle exposure (0). I also used Luminars AI feature (Artificial Intelligence) to bring out some detail in the mountains. Finally, I mixed all my “versions” into Photoshop to get the final image!
